Thullal Dance
As the name suggests, it is presented with a slight twist, that is, with Thullal. Most of the words and styles used in Thullal are common people's words and styles. The uniqueness of the writing, the way of presentation, and the impartial criticism make Thullal notable from other arts. The criticism in Thullal is expressed in the vernacular language by mixing humor with some habits that need to be changed in society. There are three types of Thullal based on the method or cycle of songs used in Thullal and the costume used for presentation. They are Ottan Thullal, Parayan Thullal, and Sheethankan Thullal.
Thullal also has a feature that no other art form has. Other arts have been formed by many people over many periods. However, Thullal is an art form formed in the imagination of an individual. That great genius was Kalakkatt Kunchan Nambiar, a great scholar and master of humor who lived in the 18th century. Kunchan Nambiar, who was born in Kalakkam, Killikurussimangalam, Palakkad district, created Thullal during his time as a dependent of the King of Ambalapuzha. The three variants of Thullal, which are simple, elegant and important, are performed in the morning, afternoon and evening. The most popular is Ottan Thullal.
