Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam is an important classical dance form in India. Bharatanatyam originated in the temples of South India, especially in Tamil Nadu. Since it was a devadasi dance, Bharatanatyam was also known as Dasiyattam. Information about Bharatanatyam is mentioned in many ancient texts, including Bharata Muni's Natyashastra. Bharatanatyam was performed by devadasi dancers who were appointed to dance in temples. Bharatanatyam was earlier known as 'Sadir'. Artists like Bala Saraswati and Rukmini Devi Arundel revived Bharatanatyam and brought it outside the temples.
